On Sunday, April 13, 2025, the 3rd Annual Jersey City Marathon and Half Marathon will take place, starting at 7:00 AM. We thank you for your support and understanding as we undertake this community event. Below you will find key information to minimize the impact on the day of the race.  

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR RESIDENTS, EMPLOYEES, AND VISITORS

  • Plan Ahead: Review the marathon route and street closure information in advance to plan travel accordingly.  
  • Parking: Ensure vehicles are not parked on streets with posted restrictions to avoid towing. List of parking locations outside of the course area is below. Cars must be moved no later than Friday, April 11 at 11:59pm 
  • Stay Informed: Check local news outlets and the official marathon website for any updates or changes leading up to the event. 

By staying informed and planning ahead, residents can minimize disruptions and enjoy the community spirit that the marathon brings to Jersey City.

PATH Train Alert: 

  • Weekend Work Disruption – Due to extensive track work between Grove St., Newport, and Hoboken stations, service on the JSQ-33 St. via HOB line will operate every 20 minutes between Journal Square and 33 St. stations. 

During this time, PATH will also run temporary, additional service between HOB-33 St. Trains will depart every 10 minutes between Hoboken and 33 St. stations. 

Customers on the temporary, additional HOB-33 St. line traveling to Journal Square, Grove St., or Newport stations will need to transfer at Hoboken Station to a Journal Square-bound train.

NWK-WTC: Service will operate every 20 minutes. 

JSQ-33 St. (via HOB): Service will operate every 20 minutes between Journal Square and 33 St. stations. PATH will also run temporary, additional service between Hoboken and 33 St stations. Trains will depart every 10 minutes between Hoboken and 33 St. stations.

Access to Jersey City Medical Center for employees and for emergency vehicles will be allowed during gaps in the race via the intersections of Grand St and Jersey Ave and Grand St and Monmouth St.  Do not cross the race route unless explicitly permitted by a JCPD police officer!

Port Liberte residents:

JCPD will direct cars to cross east to west on Chapel Road, crossing Caven Point Road and Garfield Ave., sporadically during gaps in the race. Expect delays crossing Caven Point Road and Garfield Ave. Traffic will not be allowed to turn onto Caven Point Road or onto Garfield Ave. The longest delays will be between the hours of 7:30AM and 10:30AM. Any Port Liberte resident traffic should be planned for before 7:30AM or after 10:30AM.

Paulus Hook residents:

JCPD will direct cars to cross Grand St South to North on Marin Blvd. or Van Vorst St. sporadically during gaps in the race. Expect delays crossing Grand St. Traffic will not be allowed to turn onto Grand St. The longest delays will be between the hours of 8:00AM and 11:00AM. Any Paulus Hook resident traffic should be planned for before 8:00AM or after 11:00AM. Alternate parking locations will be made available for Paulus Hook residents who wish to take advantage of them. Hamilton Park residents:

No traffic crossings of Marin Blvd., or Manila/Grove St will be possible between 7:00AM and 8:00AM. If you must drive across these streets, plan to do so before 7:00AM or after 8:00AM. No traffic crossings of Coles St or Monmouth St will be possible between 8:15AM and 11:15AM. If you must drive across these streets, plan to do so before 8:15AM or after 11:15AM. Alternate parking locations will be made available for Hamilton Park residents who wish to take advantage of them. What time does my car need to be removed from a closed street?

What will happen if my car is not moved?
It will be towed.
The race falls on Palm Sunday, what if my church is in the closure area?
Refer to the list of parking alternatives to identify a lot close to your place of worship. All churches have been notified of the race. It is recommended to allow for additional time to travel.
I am an employee of a business that is inside the closure area, how do I get to work?
Allow for extra time for your commute due to road closures, etc. Public transportation is highly recommended, but if you have to drive, park your vehicle in an alternate location and walk to your place of employment. LINK TO THAT SECTION if possible.
Will I be able to cross a closed street as a pedestrian?
Pedestrians will be able to cross Washington Blvd at Town Square Place. We will have staff at that intersection to assist with controlled pedestrian crossings during the race. 
I live in Port Liberte, what will the impacts be to my area?
